Cold Fronts

Locals Only w/CRUISR, Cold Fronts & Needle Points at The Barbary Jan. 15

When a bunch of turbulent Philly rockers play under one roof, you know you’re in for a wild ride. When those Philly rockers are Needle PointsCold Fronts, and CRUISR, you know you’re in for a wild dance party. Psychedelic outfit Needle Points are sure to get things off to a far-out start, with some guaranteed esoteric visuals, thundering bass lines and tribal drum sequences. Oh, and their bestial get ups are always a treat in and of themselves. Cold Fronts, who finished up a mini U.S tour just before the holidays, are known for their rowdy DIY shows, blasting through their tunes fast and furious to keep kids movin' and sweatin'. CRUISR will finish the night off with their breezy, Cali-vibes indie pop. Their songs demonstrate a real comprehension of what makes the perfect pop hook. And don’t peace out after the show is over! Stick around for the official afterparty, Space Jam, with members of Cold Fronts at the DJ booth. The Barbary, 951 Frankford Ave., 7pm, $10, All Ages - Emily DiCicco

Cold Fronts EP Release Show at The Barbary Nov. 9

If Cold Fronts’ now infamous shows at the Rathaus are any indicator of what to expect for their record release party at The Barbary, it’s going to get dangerously rowdy. However, while Craig Almquist and Al Smith (who founded the band) may have cultivated a dedicated fan base playing late-night shows at the 40-littered, broken-down, University City warehouse nicknamed the Rat, they’ve since scored a Warner Bros Records deal after impressing Sire Records founder Seymour Stein at an impromptu show at SXSW. True to their style, the new high-energy EP, Forever, incites that kind of wild, bouncy, whip-your-head like a maniac dancing (just take a listen to its single "Hit Me"), which sounds like a romcom theme song that’s stuck in your head weeks after you saw the movie. Cold Fronts are opening for Chicago-based Empires, and are currently supporting them on a string of dates this month. Get there early for the all-ages performance, and get ratty. New Music Video: "Hit Me" (Acid Test Lyric Video) - Cold Fronts

Cold Fronts has been rather dormant since signing to Sire Records. Well, they're gearing up to hit the road in support of their first label release. The four-song EP entitled Forever will be available on Novemeber 4, and the band just shared its first single "Hit Me." The track is also accompanied by a trippy lyric video, which was filmed and edited by Joe Lee and can be viewed below. They'll be performing next in Philly on November 9 at The Barbary opening for Empire.

Human BBQ XXXV at Pilam on April 5th

Pilam erupts with its thunderous Human BBQ for its unprecedented 36th year today, and the music frathouse features a stacked lineup of 18 bands playing its basement and 1st floor. The event will be headlined by Brooklyn buzz band Total Slacker, and will feature other noteworthy out of towners like NYC’s Total Slant and Betlehem’s indie duo Slingshot Dakota. But Philly will be very well represented by the like of Cold Fronts, who should be seeing big things coming their way after recently signing to Sire Records. The ongoing psych rock project of booking wizard Andy Molholt, Laser Background will bring their synths stylings to the party. Mumblr will bring the fast paced fuzz punk, and Secret Plot to Destroy the Entire Universe will bring their hard-hitting, emotive anthems. Add in 11 more bands of varying style, plenty of meat and veggie BBQ options, and the Human BBQ’s tendency for delivering surprise performers; and you have a stacked day of music. PiLam, 3914 Spruce St, 12PM, $15 21+ – Bill McThrill

Weekend Warrior, March 7 - 9

This Saturday, Cold Fronts wil be headlining Johnny Brenda’s for the first time! The band has spent most of this winter working on their major label debut for Warner Bros. Records with Fancy Time Studio’s Kyle “Slick” Johnson so expect some new jams to fill the second floor of JB’s. Cold Fronts will be accompanied by recording studio mates Cruiser and Weekender, who are currently hauling ass back from tour down south. The Philly-heavy lineup of up-and-comers will also be hosting a Deli NYC favorite, Brooklyn-based Cultfever, who will be stopping through on its way down to SXSW. It’s going to be an evening of feel-good tunes so no party poopers allowed. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $10, 21+ - H. M. Kauffman
