On April 20th, the San Francisco based neo psych band, Down Dirty Shake will be performing live and sharing a bill with the SF based band, Cosmic Correlation Conspiracy and the UK based psych duo Black Doldrums. Make sure you head down to the Elbo Room to experience a full on night of heavy psychedelic rock vibes.

Down Dirty Shake is a rock n roll band based out of San Francisco. The group is deeply influenced by the 60's/70's. Touching on latin, psych, soul, pop and garage rock. The live shows are guaranteed to be an experience; always full of energy and raw emotion. DDS is most well known for there annual milk bar residency and throwing DIY music festivals. Cosmic Correlation Conspiracy made their first appearance as the opening act for the 1960’s cult-classic, The Chocolate Watchband on their 50th year anniversary show at the Acid Test in May of 2016. Stemming from the universal musical tradition of reinterpretation, their music is a fusion of freewheeling freak-flagged blues with a twist of eastern mysticism and tribal rhythms. Black Doldrums supported Sterling Roswell of Spacemen 3 and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth at the Stock Newington Music Festival as well as Lee Scratch Perry and The Fall at Levels Festival. Additionally, they took time out to play two shows back to back in London and Manchester for the Alan McGee curated charity events Musicians Against Homelessness, supporting 'Blue Orchids' and sharing the stage with Martin Bramah (founding member of The Fall). 

We're excited to share that the upcoming community based music festival Freak Nest will be taking place on March 26th at The Cave in the Dogpatch District of San Francisco!

Freak Nest is an independent Bay Area music festival showcasing the local artistic community. The festival will be held on March 26th, 2016, at a warehouse in the Dogpatch district of San Francisco.

Freak Nest was founded as a way to unite the local community of artists, musicians, performers, entertainers, writers, photographers, poets, and people. The festival is an attempt to revitalize of our inherent responsibility to stand together in this time of spiritual and financial adversity.

All of the bands are local and independent. The lineup consists of Down Dirty Shake, Night Shapes, fpod bpod, Little Sister, Trans Van Santos, LOCO TRANQUILO, Michael Musika, Mayya and the Revolutionary Hell Yeah as well as a handful of other special guests, including Adam Vida (FKA A-1).

Local artists being featured include but are not limited to Kyle DeMartini, Taylor Lissandrello, Charlie Prather, and Will Durkee.

The Gathering Of The Tribes is a festival centralized exclusively in itself and its own breed of musicians and artists. San Francisco has had other festivals in past years, but this one aims to showcase the Bay Area’s breed of psychedelia and its sub-genres, as well as celebrate its musical and artistic ancestry. The name is borrowed, or you could even say revitalized—resurrected—from the Human Be-In that took place in Golden Gate Park, January 14, 1967. This is when Haight-Ashbury became symbolically immortalized as a counter-culture mecca. Our festival celebrates San Francisco’s past and present, and aims to push forward its music and arts in a positive and progressive direction, preserving it for the good of the Bay Area and to keep things groovy.

Hopefully you got that reference. But no, we’re the San Francisco Great Society. 

Founder, Dennis Gonzales: I've been running Pow Magazine since 1986 and being entrenched in the music community for several years as a social media journalist, I can tell you SF music is not only alive, it is about to explode into a new movement unlike anything seen since the first music scene in 1965. Everything about our Society and our festival is a familial, grass roots effort.  Amoeba is sponsoring the event—they too have promoted it on their Facebook page as well as Twitter. Pow Magazine, Counter Culture Artist Management, and Innerlight Presents are altogether presenting this festival. We have reached out to the best of the Bay, and most have said “yes.”

Clay Andrews of The Spiral Electric and Innerlight Presents: If the festival is comprised of bands that are all touring and far away, and everybody has all their records—that’s great and all; you have to bring people to the event, but at the same time it’s like—don’t just throw a fest where you just bring an import of things because that’s not really doing anything for the local scene. It’s not exposing people to what’s actually happening right now in their backyards.

Derek See SF DJ, musician and music collector: One thing I’m especially excited about is hearing and meeting bands that I don’t know even though they're local. Because of what i do for a living, i have to get up real early in the morning on weekends—I do go out and see live music when I can, but never as much as I’d like to, whereas at this festival I’m just super stoked to be able to experience and hang out with like-minded folks.

On January 22nd, The Independent will be hosting a psychedelic music showcase featuring Brian Jonestown Massacre's charismatic percussion extraordinaire, Joel Gion and his band The Primary Colours, San Francisco's premiere psych revivalist band, The Love Dimension, psych pop/post punk band, Cellar Doors and psych soul band, Down Dirty Shake. You don't see too many full local line ups play The Independent, so do your best to attend to ensure these bands have a successful show. The more we help local bands fill larger venues, the more the venues will be inclined to give Bay Area bands a chance to shine.

Not only is the line up local, but the bands are seasoned and absolutely stellar. We love a big shows just as much as we love bands straight out of the garage. Make your way out to the Independent and have a blast!

The 2013 Deli Magazine San Francisco Artist of the Year, Down Dirty Shake are finally releasing their debut self titled album! They're celebrating the release with the San Francisco based orchestral rock band, Battlehooch who is also releasing their new album, WINK. The show is going down at Bottom of the Hill this Saturday, November 22nd.

A special performance by local super group, Kokomo Hum featuring Sean Mabry of Maus Haus and members of Mwahaha, Batttlehooch, White Cloud, and Paint The Trees White will open the show. White Light Prism will be doing visuals as well!

This is going to be a really big show! If you're going to finish out the year with one major local show, this is the one to attend. Congrats to both bands on their album releases!
