Oakland's Makeunder (aka Hamilton Ulmer) just released another single off forthcoming album Pale Cicada and it's a force of soul and funk, Prince-esq vocals and gyrating horns and baselines. There's so much going on in track "In Between My Dead-End Jobs" that you've got to give it a couple listens. The full album comes out June 28 on Good Eye Records and it's a fun experience of songs that are full of passion and positivity, despite messages full of struggles and loss. - Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

The Oakland based band, Makeunder has shared a remix of “Inevitable Conclusion” turned in by Akiyoshi Ehara of The Seshen. Ehara tells Atwood Magazine, "The vocals really stood out to me on this tune as something that would be fun to play with. I found that in a weird way a lot of the vocal runs seemed to have a subtle 90’s R&B flavor, especially when pitched up or down, which started to inform some of the groove. I’ve been going back to Timbaland and Missy Elliot productions a lot as of late, so some of that stuttering and syncopation of the beat was probably due to that stuff being a little fresher in my memory.”

Bay Area based experimental avant rock band, Makeunder has released a new music video for their single, "To the Ladder". This highly imaginitive and unique musical outfit is made up of six core members who create artistically off kilter music that exudes tonal influences from experimental composer Bela Bartok and new wave geniuses The Talking Heads. Because of Makeunder's unique musical influences they create music that stands on its own as pure avant art music.
