Spritzer

Spritzer premieres video for "Jean & Helene"

NYC's Spritzer, the side project of Friend Roulette's Matthew Flory Meade, is a band of skilled musicians who, refreshingly, don't take themselves too seriously. The songs from their debut album, Love. Lies. Decay. have inflections of early-aughts indie reminiscent of Arcade Fire, but also sophisticated late '80s/early '90s pop like Prefab Sprout and The The. Songs like "Jean & Helene," whose video premiered a few days ago, are a rollicking ride, with relentless uptempo drums, reverb-laden vocals, and swirling synth lines that lend an air of the mystical to the already dream-like tunes. This is definitely a new NYC band to keep an ear on. - Ethan Ames

New Single "Jean & Helene" from Spritzer's Debut LP

Spritzer lives up to its eponymous beverage: fun, bubbly, yet intoxicating just the same. The side-project of Friend Roulette’s Matt Meade, Spritzer serves as the vehicle for the artist’s more traditionally pop experimentation. Yet, Spritzer’s vibe doesn’t feel so stuffy as that. The music is of a refreshing vintage, featuring groovy bass lines and a very welcome horn section. Spritzer’s upcoming LP Love. Lies. Decay. promises even more inebriation and retro vibes, so make sure to celebrate its release on 04.25 at Elsewhere or catch it out on Paper Garden Records, 04.27. --Amanda Ogea

Out In The Streets Festival bringing local music and art to Ridgewood, Queens this weekend (08.01 - 08.02)

Now in its 6th year, Out In the Streets Festival is back in action to bring your favorite indie bands to Queens for a weekend of art, food, fun, and music. Hosted at the historic Onderdonk House in Ridgewood, the outdoor fest is the smaller, DIY version of all the big summer music festivals that have competed for your attention and presence in the past few months. Since it began on a street corner in Bushwick in 2009, Out In the Streets has kept itself homegrown and independent but continues to grow every year, celebrating local artists and eateries in this two-day multimedia festival. The lineup includes bands like Mr Twin Sister, Total Slacker, The Love Supreme, Wild Yaks, Salt Cathedral and many more. The bands performing this weekend are all mostly NYC-based, and the lineup on Sunday is featuring local bands from Bushwick and Ridgewood. Full weekend passes are still available for only $35, with one day tickets going for $20, on sale here. Check out a Spotify compilation of all the performing bands here, or streaming below. - Sam O'Hara

Spritzer (Matthew Meade of Friend Roulette) plays Matchless on 06.11

We are big fans of Brooklyn's exper-orchestral collective Friend Roulette, therefore we are happy to highlight this track by Spritzer, the solo project of Matthew Meade, one of that band's founding members. His single "Melt" takes us back to the summers of the mid 80s, when Lloyd Cole and the Commotions injected a cool, Lou Reed-esque narrational touch to the often overly melodic British pop tradition. You can see Spritzer live at Matchless on Friday 06.12 within the Supercrush Studio, Greenpointers.com and Cara Bella official Northside show featuring a lot of great local artists.

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
