IN HEAT and Bugs and Rats Tour Starts Tonight in Providence

The first time I saw Boston's excellent Bugs and Rats, Nick from How They Light Cigarettes in Prison told me they sound like Nirvana. I'd never have thought of it, but In Utero is a pretty close comparison.

Providence's In Heat is screaming angry metal with enough power to make even the old people in the pit move (don't confuse them with the In Heat who have a Facebook page, though). Tour starts tonight at OE BNB in Providence, with Boston's Abominable Skimask.

DOOMSDAY STUDENT RECORD RELEASE SHOW - SATURDAY IN PROVIDENCE

Providence's Doomsday Student somehow summon the joyful noise of four 8 year-olds who've never played music using very structured (but still noisy) songs. Live, singer Eric Paul moves around like a bully making fun of a "spastic," while his bandmates similarly bully their instruments.

Their new record, A Walk Through Hysteria Park, sounds a lot like their old band, Arab on Radar, and much noisier than their other previous band, Chinese Stars.

Record release show this Saturday, 11/29/14, in Providence, at Dusk, their final show 'til March.

Eyes to the Skies brings pop to Providence

A boy band trying to make it in the local scene, dance moves, pop hooks and all – it might make you laugh at first, but it’s actually kind of awesome. Eyes to the Skies, a trio from Providence College, is bringing the One Direction craze to the college music scene, taking on the hard task of pushing pop music in venues that typically host rock bands. Last month the band released its debut two-track EP, and while it’s tough to say whether the whole thing is a joke, their dance moves certainly aren’t. Download the Eyes to the Skies EP over on Bandcamp and check out a live performance of “OMG!” on the band’s Facebook page. – Jake Reed (@jakejreed)
